Letterpress File Preparation
For letterpress we prefer to receive Adobe Illustrator files with the type “outlined”, with cropmarks in place and line art with minimum line thickness of a quarter point*. Additionally we would like a comp pdf file for reference.
CHECKLIST:
1) Convert all text to “Outlines”.
2) Increase artboard size.
3) Please make cropmarks .0625” (1/16”)
from the trim, .125”(1/8”) long, .25 point (1/4pt) thick in “Registration Color”.
4) Please check that all line art, including the thin areas of the outlined fonts, is at least a 1/4 point thick (.25 pt).
4) Please make sure art is in spot colors.
5) Save file as .eps for Illustrator.
6) Send file and comp.
Non-vector art:
We prefer files in vector art. However, if vector is not available, please import only bitmapped 1200 dpi (minimum) images saved as tiff, do not save as jpegs.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
We do not guarantee line art under a quarter point to hold on the plate - please double check your files.
We can not emphasize this enough because it is critical to the success of your job.
Offset File Preparation
For offset we prefer to receive PDF/X-1a:2001 files with cropmarks and 1/8 inch bleeds. Additionally, we would like a comp pdf file for reference.
We accept up to the latest versions of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and QuarkXPress 10 files. QuarkXPress: Please use the “Collect for output” feature. InDesign: Please use the “Package” feature. Illustrator: Please “outline” type and save as .eps, including images.
SPOT COLOR CHECKLIST:
1) Are all placed images 300 dpi?
2) All lineart images 1200 dpi?
3) Are the bleeds 1/8 inch?
4) Are the images tiff (Not jpg, gif, png)
5) Cropmarks, fold and score marks?
6) Are the images grayscale?
7) Are all colors used PMS colors?
8) For screened PMS color type or solids, please use screen of the PMS color and not the transparency feature.
PROCESS COLOR CHECKLIST:
1) Are all placed images 300 dpi?
2) All lineart images 1200 dpi?
3) Are the bleeds 1/8 inch?
4) Are the images tiff or psd (Not jpg, gif, png, etc.)
5) Cropmarks, fold and score mark
6) Are the images in CMYK
7) Are all colors used CMYK
Digital File Preparation
For digital we prefer to receive PDF/X-1a:2001 files with cropmarks and 1/8 inch bleeds.
